As a result of the bilateral environmental protection between the Goverments of Czech and ASlovak Federal Republic and Norway one of the projects coming up and given priority is dealing with the Acid Rain problem in the Czech Republic. Scientists from the two countries established a team in spring 1992 with the intention to develop a tool for the assessment and monitoring of environmental quality of running water ecosystems affected by Acid Rain in the Czech Republic. This will be done by intergrating physico-chemical data from communities of benthic macro invertebrates in brooks and streams. And from that information develop a resposne model, a system for water quality classification of effects generated by acid deposition. The system will be an important tool in the Czech Republic to get a national picture of the degree of deterioration and the geographical distribution of these problems in the
